Built in 1963 by Grandma Jackie and Grandpa Roger in the heart of fallow fields near the Mediterranean Sea in Argelès/mer, La Sardane campsite, has now evolved. Stories of love, Catalan culture, creativity and ambition: what magical ingredients to make this “baby” flourish!
Catalan culture, essential in the hearts of these precursors, resonates here in the very terms of its name. The “Sardana”, which is well known in our country, is a traditional local dance which, hopping in a circle “hand in hand”, celebrates sharing, respect and good vibes. Similar values to the notion of camping, what do you think…?!
The establishment, which was noticeably archaic at its inception, has remained unchanged over the years, but has tended to become more modern. If “Grandpa and Grandma” sketched the outlines, their daughter Nadine, from 1992, by the creation of a swimming pool, accentuates the heart of it. From then on, La Sardane becomes the first equipped campsite on the beach!
In 1998, Nadine and her husband Serge took over the head of the establishment and set about making it prosper. Leaving behind the rank of “traditional campsite” to immediately reach that of “camping club”, La Sardane will take a radical turn in 2010. The result: the creation of a new aquatic complex and the restructuring of the entertainment and restaurant areas to satisfy the most demanding holidaymakers. Its name is well known, and La Sardane has become one of the most popular campsites.
The challenges are numerous, but this is without counting on the enthusiasm and youthfulness of their son Rémi who, in 2012, joining his parents, gives a new impulse. Together, they will shape “Le Tropical”, the first private pedestrian district with an exotic aura, embroidered with luxurious homes equipped with private spas.
The train is no longer at the station… Defying storms and questions, this triple generation campsite mixing modernity and authenticity is committed to preserving its humanity. People are at the heart of it, but Nature accompanies them and makes them vibrate.
Also, in 2020, a greener axis is slowly taking shape at La Sardane: responsible water management, construction of a mini farm for the pleasure of children and adults. At the same time, with the creation of a semi-Olympic pool, a long-standing project, the establishment is giving itself a more sporting impetus.
However, it’s in 2022 that a new wind blows on La Sardane. Borrowing this time, a perspective mixing Nature, Relaxation and Sport; the campsite sets about colouring its new identity while respecting its historicity. New image, new logo! Don’t worry, “Grandma and Grandpa”, your little dancers are preserved! At the same time, in this era of modernity, new projects are being developed at La Sardane.
These include a restructuring of the leisure activities, the design of a new type of accommodation “the Baby Family”, the creation of a new, more advanced Tropical area and the creation of pitches with private sanitary facilities for greater comfort and privacy.
Owner in 2022 of “Green Key” label and refuge of birds LPO ; La Sardane campsite has not said his last word and continue a lot of environmental policies. New challenges await it like to become owner of “Accueil vélo” brand. In this evolutionary perspective, the establishment will propose from this year, the spontaneous renting of two roofed “bivouac” accommodations perfect for nomadic sportsperson as well as the renting of comfort pitches of 160m² with private bathroom.
After blowing out its 60th birthday candle surrounded by its most loyal members and its new recruits, the season is ending with a wind of nostalgia. The leaves are beginning to turn, autumn is on the horizon and new projects are taking shape… Yes, from station to station, the locomotive is on its way. And what a journey it is! This year, the establishment will be welcoming new accommodation with a top-of-the-range design set in a 160m² plot. The 32m² Premium Cottage, with its master suite, dishwasher, plancha and many other features, seems to be the perfect solution for convivial days combining comfort, privacy and security! Yes, from its well-designed 15m² semi-covered terrace, you can enjoy a peaceful view over its private 65m² garden.
